South Carolina-based O’Neal, Inc. acquires DME Alliance, Inc. of Allentown
In a nod toward the ongoing growth and dynamism of the biopharmaceutical market, South Carolina-based O’Neal Inc. moved into the Northeast corridor by acquiring a firm that specializes in facilities for highly-regulated industries like biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and chemical processes.
With the acquisition of DME Alliance, Inc., based in Allentown, Pennsylvania, O’Neal, an integrated design and construction firm based in Greenville and with an office in Atlanta, moves into the heart of the global BioPharm business.
Zweig Group, a full-service AEC consulting firm based in Fayetteville, AR., represented selling firm DME.
“DME built a strong brand and a solid reputation as a thought leader within the BioPharm space, ultimately driving O’Neal’s interest,” said Zweig Group’s lead M&A consultant on the project. “We congratulate both DME and O’Neal on this partnership.”
The United States is the world leader in biopharmaceuticals, and the majority of US companies are located in the Northeast, according to the 15th Annual Report and Survey of Biopharmaceutical Manufacturing Capacity and Production, published by BioPlan Associates, Inc., a leading biotechnology and life sciences research organization. According to the BioPlan report, the world market for biopharmaceuticals is more than $250B – and growing.
“Over the last several years, clients have been requesting that O’Neal expand their BioPharm services to address the resurging industry,” said Kevin Bean, president and CEO of O’Neal. “We feel that DME’s team is a perfect fit to build upon. Both companies focus on complex projects in the $5-50M range, and that is where the need is. We are excited to have the expertise of the complete DME team as we move forward.”
While the acquisition will allow O’Neal to grow in the BioPharm industry, it will also allow the company to expand in other core markets.
David Marks founded DME in 2001 and will continue to lead the Allentown office.
“It was the right timing and the perfect fit,” Marks said. “O’Neal has a full bench of resources to help us grow and help us better serve our clients. I am thrilled to be a part of the O’Neal team, which has a long, trusted history in the industry.”
