Nov 28, 2017

BIG RED DOG acquires $1.4M structural engineering design firm, MSP Engineering Group

Austin-based BIG RED DOG Engineering and Consulting recently announced the acquisition of MSP Engineering Group, PLLC. Named an Inc. 5000 fastest-growing private firm by Inc. Magazine in 2017, BIG RED DOG continues its impressive growth trajectory with the addition of the 6-person structural firm based in Sugar Land, Texas. The acquisition was facilitated by Zweig Group, a full-service AE consultancy based in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Zweig Group, representing BIG RED DOG, sourced the selling firm, MSP, and helped close the deal. “We would like to congratulate both sides on this strategic union,” said an M&A consultant at Zweig Group. “This acquisition shows that Texas remains among the top states in the nation for M&A activity, and that the future looks good for the AEC industry there.” Arnaud Thibonnier, P.E., S.E., BIG RED DOG’s Director of Structural Engineering Services, says, “The acquisition is a bit of a homecoming for us as many MSP Engineering team members were colleagues of ours prior to the formation of MSP Engineering and BIG RED DOG’s Structural service line. MSP’s production engine is second to none and we are very excited to build upon it. MSP has numerous happy clients that are performing work not only around Texas, but across the US, which will help us expand our footprint.” BIG RED DOG’s CEO Will Schnier, P.E., says, "Adding MSP Engineering to the BIG RED DOG team allows us to provide our structural engineering services to an even larger client base across a wider footprint. MSP has a legacy of happy clients and first-class development projects that we are proud to add to our resume and excited to be able to build upon. In addition to giving us our 5th office in Texas, the MSP addition contributes great apartment-specific design expertise to our multifamily market sector." This is Zweig Group’s sixth M&A closing this year, with the firm active on both the buying and selling sides of transactions. Other 2017 deals include: Otak Inc.’s acquisition of Colorado-based Loris & Associates; WGI’s acquisition of Carl Walker, Inc.; NV5 Global, Inc.’s acquisition of Orlando-based Lochrane Engineering, Inc.; Eppstein Uhen Architects’ acquisition of Burkettdesign; and Wold Architects and Engineers’ acquisition of Ruck Pate Architecture. Zweig Group’s M&A team is led by Jamie Claire Kiser and includes consultants, Phil Keil, and Brenden Sherrer.
