2020 Salary Survey of Engineering Firms Released!

Zweig Group has released the 2020 Salary Survey Report of Engineering Firms. This annual publication details salary information for engineering firms across the United States. The data contained in this publication was gathered using an online survey and collected from a diverse sample of 471 engineering firms throughout the U.S. The reports are broken down into three geographic regions: Central, Northeast & South Atlantic, and Mountain & Pacific. The 2020 Salary Survey Reports of Engineering Firms allow industry firms to compare their staff’s salaries to similar firms, set salaries for new hires, and evaluate salaries on a regional or demographic basis. The 2020 Salary Survey report also includes 10-year trend data for most major job titles. Median salaries for entry level civil engineers were consistent across all three regions (at or very close to $60,000). Structural engineers saw slightly higher entry level salaries on both the East and West Coast, but similar levels to civil engineers in the Central region. Entry level traffic engineers also followed a similar pattern with just slightly higher salaries in the Northeast and South Atlantic (median salary was $62,700). Larger variations were seen for department managers and principals, both year over year and geographically, with median salary levels ranging from the low end of $115,000 for a planner principal in the Central region, to $166,500 for an electrical engineer principal in the Mountain/Pacific region.
