Mark Zweig

Founder & Chairman
“I love working with architects and engineers — they’re honest, intelligent, and creative — and they improve the world for all of us”

Mark C. Zweig is known as the leading expert in management and business for the architecture, engineering, planning, and environmental industry. Approaching four decades as a student of the industry, Mark knows architecture, engineering, and environmental consulting firms inside and out. While he started working in bike shops at the age of 12, he began his professional career in a management consulting firm specialized in the construction and development industries, followed up by work as a principal and manager in two different AEC firms. He founded Mark Zweig & Associates in 1988, which later became Zweig White in 1994, and then Zweig Group in 2014. Zweig Group, today based in Fayetteville, Arkansas, has been named to the Inc 500/5000 list of fastest-growing privately-held companies three times.

Over the course of his career, Mark has worked with AEC firms of virtually all sizes and types throughout the U.S. and abroad and helped them solve just about every problem, including developing strategy, turnarounds, partner separations, organizational restructuring, mergers and acquisitions, reenergizing marketing, cash flow crises, ownership transitions, and much more.

Since 1992, Mark has been the publisher and cover article writer for The Zweig Letter, which is read by thousands of leaders of A/E and environmental consulting firms around the globe. He is also the publisher of Civil + Structural Engineer Magazine, a leading publication focused on celebrating the achievement of engineering professionals.  And Mark is also the author of more than a dozen books on various management and business topics for A/E/C firms, and has co-authored several more.

Mark has served on the BODs of many different privately-held AEC firms, ranging from $10 million to $200 million in annual revenues. He also owns Mark Zweig, Inc., a Fayetteville, Arkansas-based 2014 Inc 5000 design/build/development firm.  He is an Executive-in-Residence teaching entrepreneurship at The Sam M. Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas, and has taught “Everything they don’t usually teach you in architectural school” in the Fay Jones School of Architecture as an adjunct professor, also at the University of Arkansas.

Mark received both his MBA (1980) and BS in Organizational Behavior (1979) from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, Illinois. He was named to the SIU-C College of Business Hall of Fame in 1992, elected to the College of Business Board of Advisors in 1999, and named Chairman of the Advisory Board in 2002. Currently, he is on the Board of Miyamoto Relief, as well as The Dean’s Circle of The Fay Jones School of Architecture.

Mark’s hobbies include restoring and collecting antique cars and motorcycles.  Several of his motorcycle restorations were award-winners.  His restored houses have received national and local recognition, having appeared in Better Homes and Gardens, Country Home, Renovation Style, and many other publications.  He was named “Developer of the Year” in Northwest Arkansas in 2014 and received several awards for best historic renovations in the last decade.
