Zweig Group M&A: Go Midwest

Sep 11, 2019

Mid-Atlantic firm O’Donnell & Naccarato adds Indiana office through merger with Carmel-based McComas Engineering. O’Donnell & Naccarato has merged operations with structural engineering firm McComas Engineering. With four offices in the Mid-Atlantic region, this merger strengthens O&N’s geographic position and services on a national level. Zweig Group, a full-service AEC management advisory firm, represented selling firm McComas. Zweig Group’s director of mergers and acquisitions, served as the firm’s lead advisor on the engagement. “We’d like to congratulate both firms involved in this acquisition.” “It’s exciting to work with two firms that share such synergistic core values and business philosophy. The Midwest has always been a hot spot for M&A within the AEC industry. This acquisition speaks to the fact that there are still great opportunities in the market for firms seeking growth through M&A rather than doing it organically.” The addition of McComas increases the firm’s core building design services by offering specialty engineering for precast concrete, cold-formed-steel, and other contractor services. McComas also provides specialized structural design to the aquatics industry for competition pools, dive towers, and leisure swimming pools throughout the country. “This move to establish a position in the Midwest has been a strategic objective for some time and McComas was a natural fit,” said Anthony Naccarato, PE, SECB, President of O&N. “We were impressed by their technical capabilities, relationship-driven approach, potential for expansion, and their inclusive, welcoming culture.” The merger was effective last month. McComas will continue to serve clients as McComas / O’Donnell & Naccarato. The combined firms, with more than 100 employees, will be registered to perform design and restoration services in 49 of the 50 states and Washington D.C. “Earlier this year we conducted an extensive search seeking an opportunity like this,” said Rod McComas, PE, SE, President of McComas Engineering. “O&N made the decision easy as a firm whose core values and business approach fell in line with our own. The merger provides McComas the opportunity for growth and access to a new pool of talent, which will benefit our new and longstanding clients.” ABOUT ZWEIG GROUP Zweig Group, three times on the Inc. 500/5000 list, is the leading research, publishing, and consulting resource for the built environment.
