McAdams enters Dallas market with acquisition of Lewisville firm

Eager to gain a foothold in the north Texas AEC industry, engineering and design firm McAdams, of North Carolina, recently acquired G&A Consultants.

Finalized after 12 months of due diligence, the acquisition marks the first office for McAdams outside of North Carolina and will grow the firm of 215 employees to over 260. The deal with G&A, which closed in August, is the latest indication that the mergers and acquisitions market in the DFW Metroplex, and Texas in general, remains healthy, a fact well known to Zweig Group, a full-service AEC consulting firm based in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

The acquisition by McAdams, represented by Zweig Group, is the third closed Texas transaction for the consultancy in less than a year. Other deals include LandDev Consulting’s acquisition of CivilE, in metro Austin, and Austin-based BIG RED DOG Engineering and Consulting’s acquisition of MSP Engineering Group of Sugar Land.

Chad Clinehens, President & CEO, Zweig Group

In McAdams, Zweig Group had the pleasure of representing a trusted, long-time client.

“This strategic partnership is especially rewarding for our team as our relationship with McAdams goes back several decades,” said Chad Clinehens, Zweig Group’s president and CEO. “Armed with a strategic plan, both John McAdams and Mike Munn brought two very special firms together, connecting two incredibly powerful regions of the country. The combined heritage, culture, and capabilities of these two firms present exciting opportunities for everybody and opens new doors for McAdams.”

M&A consultant Noah Hunt was Zweig Group’s lead on the McAdams-G&A project.

Over their last 39 years in business, McAdams has focused on large-scale commercial developments, residential communities, education campuses, municipal projects, energy companies, and healthcare facilities.

The two firms will operate in Texas under a temporarily combined identity, G&A | McAdams, until fully transitioning to McAdams. During this transition, McAdams will continue to operate under the name McAdams in North Carolina.

The newly combined firm will continue to cater to many of the largest, most notable projects in North Carolina and Texas through services such as land planning, landscape architecture, engineering, survey, environmental consulting and more. True to McAdams and G&A’s people-focused mission, all leadership and employees will be retained through the merger, capitalizing on both teams’ collective client-service experience.

“We are embarking on a new chapter for McAdams,” said Munn, McAdams’ CEO. “G&A and McAdams together are positioned to expand our abilities for our clients as we move forward. We will continue our vision of creating meaningful experiences through inspired design.”
