A seminar for improving the practical leadership skills of AEC professionals
LEADERSHIP SKILLS FOR AEC PROFESSIONALS is a 2-day seminar that was specifically developed to provide design and technical professionals with the skills to become more competent leaders. This course helps attendees develop and re-affirm the leadership skills, strategies, and techniques that will help them grow personally and professionally.
Effective leadership skills are vital to the health and success of every company in any industry. Effective leaders motivate their teams to achieve exceptional results, inspire others to be better than they thought possible, and they create an environment where everyone is moving in the same, positive direction.
This course is taught by expert leaders who are immersed in the AEC industry and have practical experience solving many of the challenges facing AEC firms. This is not a course full of buzzwords or the latest fads. This is a course filled with practical solutions design and technical professionals can use every day to lead their firms to success.

About the Presenters
Director of Education / Strategic Planning Consultant, Zweig Group
Bill Murphey is the Zweig Group’s Director of Education and serves as a strategic planning consultant. He’s a retired U.S. Force Colonel with over 25 years of experience leading large organizations in operations, strategy development, strategic communication, and logistics. Bill is also an adjunct faculty member in the Sam M. Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas, where he teaches strategic management and global logistics in the Master of Business Administration degree program.
After earning a bachelor’s of science degree in marketing from the University of Arkansas, Bill served in the U.S. Air Force as an aircraft navigator, in the Air Force’s CHECKMATE strategy division, and as the commander of a 900-person operations group. Combined with his practical leadership experience, Bill specializes in growing organizations through professional development, organizational management, and through competitive assessments.
In addition to his marketing degree, Bill holds a Master of Arts degree in Organizational Management from The George Washington University, a Master of Arts degree in Military Operational Art & Science from Air University, and a Master of Science degree in National Resource Strategy from the National Defense University.

Randy Wilburn is Zweig Group’s Director of Executive Search. Randy first worked for ZweigWhite in the firm’s executive search team in the 1990s/2000s, and was an owner in the firm. He left the firm when it was sold in 2004 to a private equity group. When Zweig Group returned to the hands of the original founding partner, Mark Zweig, Randy rejoined the firm to help them rebuild a key part of their business. Wilburn is proven when it comes to helping firms in the architecture, engineering, planning and environmental markets find the best people to build their organizations. In addition to helping firms fill their critical roles, Randy also trains AEC leaders on a variety of skills including how to recruit and retain employees.
Randy is an accomplished author, speaker, consultant, trainer, and business coach. He is one of the nation’s leading experts on a variety of topics including leadership skills, strategic planning, and small business development. One of the programs he helped to develop, Bootstrap Bootcamp, incorporates a holistic approach to Small Business Development by focusing on the individual first and the business second.
Randy has been featured in Business Week, and The Boston Globe, and the Blog of Timothy Ferriss, Author of the NY Times Best Seller, “4 Hour Work Week,” in addition to being a former Spokesperson for Elance.com. He also spends time inspiring young people and Entrepreneurs with motivational talks that focus on encouragement and leadership development. He is a graduate of Howard University and The Summer Leadership Institute at Harvard University. He is a certified Business Coach and a Teacher in Biblical Entrepreneurship through the Nehemiah Project.
